This lovely old-fashioned bag was inspired by the original bags carried by travellers embarking on long journeys during the rapid expansion of the railroads in the 1840’s and 1850’s in America. They were called carpetbags because the makers would buy old carpets and construct the bags from the pieces of carpet that were not completely worn out. This meant that ordinary folk could afford to buy a good-sized bag to accommodate their needs on these journeys.

Rosie’s Carpetbag features vintage-style fabrics and crazy patch detail. The pattern provides templates for all sections of the crazy patch, or if you prefer, you can make the bag using your own freestyle crazy patch construction.

The kit includes the pattern, and all the fabrics needed to make the bag, including all print fabrics and base fabric for crazy patch as well as fabric for lining the bag.
